About the Role:
 
PBS Aerospace is seeking an innovative and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design and development of advanced jet engine control systems and power electronics. You will play a key role in the integration of cutting-edge control technologies into PBS jet engines, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), and other aerospace propulsion systems. Your work will directly support critical aerospace platforms, including military and UAV applications, in a rapidly growing facility designed for high-tech aerospace manufacturing.
 
Position Overview:
 
The Principal Electrical Engineer at PBS Aerospace will lead the design, development, and integration of advanced electrical systems for jet engines and aerospace propulsion platforms, including Engine Control Units (ECUs), onboard power systems, and embedded software. They will own the electrical architecture of all PBS engines, design complex circuit boards, and ensure compliance with aerospace standards. This role involves collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, troubleshooting field issues, and supporting both manufacturing and product innovation. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to vehicle-level system integration, smart controls for UAVs and military platforms, and next-generation sensor payloads.
 

Successful candidate profile:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, power electronics, or aerospace electrical engineering.
  • Deep expertise in circuit design, embedded software development, and power distribution.
  • Experience with aerospace-grade electronics, including compliance with DO-160 or MIL-STD specifications, is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools and embedded programming (e.g., C/C++).
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills.
 
 

Job description:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the electrical specifications of all PBS engines, including Engine Control Units (ECUs) and onboard power generation systems.
  • Design and develop advanced circuitry and circuit cards for engine control hardware.
  • Architect embedded software solutions for engine control systems, ensuring robust and efficient functionality.
  • Develop and implement automated testing systems to support high-reliability engine manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure all circuit card designs and manufacturing processes comply with aerospace quality and performance standards.
  • Serve as the lead troubleshooter for electrical system issues, including field and customer support resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing to deliver integrated, high-performance aerospace products.
 Growth Opportunities:
  • Lead the electrical design and integration of other PBS Aerospace products such as APUs and new engine development programs.
  • Drive the architecture and implementation of vehicle-level control systems, enabling smart and responsive UAV and military platforms.
  • Spearhead the design and integration of sensor payloads and advanced electronics in next-generation aerospace vehicles.
Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Due to the nature of PBS Aerospace’s business as a defense contractor, this position is limited to U.S. citizens, as defined under applicable federal regulations.
  • 10% of international travel to Europe is required in the first year.
  • Typically, in a manufacturing facility the environment can be noisy and requires the use of protective gear.
  • The role may involve standing, walking, and lifting, and can be physically demanding.
  • Able to lift to 50 pounds.
