PBS Group and Pratt & Whitney to Co-Develop Next-Generation APUs

09/25/2025
PBS Group and Pratt & Whitney, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, have entered into an agreement to develop a next-generation auxiliary power unit (APU) for commercial and military aircraft, including fighters, rotorcraft, and business jets. The collaboration will be supported by PBS Aerospace’s newly opened North American headquarters and manufacturing facility in Roswell, Georgia.
The effort focuses on delivering class-leading power density while reducing weight and size—enabling faster engine starts, reliable operation at high altitude, and robust onboard electrical and pneumatic power for avionics, environmental control, and emergency restart.

“Pratt & Whitney’s history is unmatched in aviation,” said Erin Durham, CEO of PBS Aerospace U.S. “We’re proud to collaborate on an APU that prioritizes reliability, power density, and maintainability for customers in the United States and Europe.”

“Advanced APUs are essential for keeping aircraft mission-ready on the ground and optimized in the air,” added Jessica Villardi, vice president of Fighter and Mobility Programs at Pratt & Whitney. “This work with PBS reflects our commitment to next-generation turbine technologies.”

PBS Aerospace’s U.S. team will contribute engineering and manufacturing expertise, building on the company’s mission-proven small turbojet production at TRL 9 across drones, interceptors, and advanced munitions.
